As DARPA sends down their East Coast balloons, geocachers have been on the march across the country with their GPS units hunting down red balloons. We have 7 confirmed balloons so far, and we're still looking. Thanks for all of your help out there!
If you see a red balloon, please send us the coordinates, a picture (if possible) and the number of the balloon to darpa@groundspeak.com.

They say Nerdfighters will donate their winnings to charity making everyone else look lame; I made sure to post that Groudspeak will donate the prize plus some. Go guys!
Was rather hoping that the DARPA site would put a status update of "taken down" on the ones that have been removed, to at least narrow down the time zones of the missing balloons, but no go...
Thanks to everyone for participating in the challenge! 6 out of the 8 locations we found were confirmed on-site by geocachers, which beat all of our expectations.
Groundspeak is a 9 year old company that owns and operates Geocaching.com. Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.
Aaarrrgh! I want to see where they are! I also want us to win, so I understand the secrecy... =)
